Fact:
Because of this fact, the U.S. Government requires that all cell phones first be tested for SAR (Specific Absorption Rate measured in mW/g) Compliance before they can be sold in the U.S. [SAR is basically the amount of energy (in milli-watts) that a specific amount of tissue (in this case brain, measured in grams, henceforth, milli-watts per gram) absorbs over a given period of time.] This compliance limits the brain SAR exposure to the cell phone user to a maximum of 1.6 mW/g. The U.S. Government allows the cell phone manufacture to conduct this testing themselves via certain labs throughout the country capable of conducting such testing. The U.S. Government strictly relies on the "manufacturer’s honesty" for its testing compliance results. Needless to say, that this testing is performed under the most ideal conditions with only one goal in mind. To obtain the lowest SAR value possible to comply with the 1.6 mW/g brain SAR value limit! These tests are done in a fixed position on a phantom (a simulated body part, in this case the head) a certain distance away from the measuring device/receiver. I don’t know about you but I never saw anybody use a cell phone and not move it, while talking. In this scenario, every single millimeter makes a big difference. Many times, I have even seen the cell phone’s antenna actually touch the user’s head! This one realistic fact alone can severely alter the manufacture’s SAR Compliance value testing results! Also consider that the testing media is not realistic. No two people have the same exact head/skull anatomy/development. The six layers of tissue involved varies in thickness from person to person. Again, this one fact alone can drastically effect the brain SAR Value Compliance results. Another is whether the user has the antenna up or down while using their phone. If down, it will considerably increase microwave radiation exposure to the user’s brain. People using “Antenna Booster” patches will increase the microwave radiation exposure to their brain by increasing the signal strength. The distance a cell phone is the cell site/tower can alter the exposure of microwave radiation to the user’s brain significantly too. The further away it is, the more it will emit microwave radiation (the signal) in an attempt to communicate with the site/tower. It kind of makes one wonder how close a cell tower is to a testing facility that is actually testing the cell phone for the "Independent" SAR Value amount. Also, if you use your phone in a building, the walls will produce the same effects as distance, causing the phone to “power up” in an attempt to maintain the call/connection. With everything else being same, children’s heads/skulls are smaller and thinner then adults, this one fact alone, subjects their brains to even higher microwave radiation exposures then an adult.
Another words, in the real world, the SAR value obtained and given by the cell phone manufactures for the U.S. Government Compliance does not really mean very much. The actual values are considerably higher, easily bring the real SAR values way over the 1.6 mW/g limit the government allows! Especially if you also consider secondary fields. These fields are generated when metal reflects the primary field (the primary field is what’s generated directly from the phone and antenna). For example, wearing wire eye glasses, braces, metal jewelry worn around the head and neck or being near larger metal objects while using your cell phone. These conditions will also increase the brain’s exposure to microwave radiation. There are dozens more of variables that can increase exposure of microwave radiation to your brain when using your cell phone, all of which are never considered in the governments SAR Value Compliance testing for new cell phones by the manufacturers, prior to be put out on the market, for public use. It’s all a very very scary and real scenario!!! Especially when you consider that less than 5 mW/g is sufficient enough to cause a temperature rise that can initiate tissue damage!
In the book by Dr. Robert Kane, “Cellular Telephone Russian Roulette,” he also brings up many good points related to cell phone usage that most people don’t consider when using their cell phones. Dr. Kane has worked in the telephone industry for over 30 years and has a PhD in electrical engineering with emphasis in the fields of electromagnetics and solid-state physics. He, as many people do, contests that the cell phone industry does know the perils of cell phone usage and claim that there is a "cover up". Especially, when you consider that the most commonly use frequency is the frequency usage that does the most tissue damage even more then the frequency used in a microwave oven!
