As most people are aware, for years now, numerous news media brought to the public’s attention the potential health risk from the exposure of RF microwave radiation to people that use hand-held cellular and the newer cordless phones (which, also, emits RF microwave radiation!). This “scare” was based on the fact that these hand-held phones do indeed produce/emit RF microwave radiation from the phone and antenna when in use and due to the close proximity of it to the user’s head, a potential health threat may exist. Presently, this risk is questionable and more research is needed to confirm or deny such a risk. Hopefully, in the near future, such a question will be answered definitively, one way or the other.

In the meantime, however, the above facts still remain. The Cellular Shield®, when used on a hand-held cellular and cordless phones, shields/protects the user from such exposure, eliminating the fear/potential health risk thus giving the user literally “peace of mind”.

The Cellular Shield® is a new product like no other. A couple of good precautionary examples, paralleling the reasoning for using The Shield would be like comparing it's use to, putting a helmit on your head before riding a motorcycle, using an umbella/raincoat before heading out in the rain or putting your child in a car seat before traveling. Think of it as “cellular contraception”. Its one extra small step you have to go through, however, the benefits/peace of mind it can possible provide, someday, far outweigh any minor inconvenience you may of had to have gone through. The bottom line is, "it's better to have been safe then sorry" and "an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure". ..... Okay...... your right, it's pervention not protection. However, I think the latter makes more sense, as it relates to what we are talking about. Besides, I was also just making sure your still paying attention.

WARNING! - Beware of phone shielding devices that use the Faraday Cage Principle (i.e. Phone Cases) that claim to shield the user from RF microwave radiation without effecting the phone's performance or battery life while only shielding you from the phone and NOT, also, from the antenna. This simply is not true and is the manufacture's claim. (In fact, in the several different brands we tested, all failed miserably in reducing any EMF emitted from any part of the phone.) Fact: Mobile phones (cellular and newer cordless) emit RF microwave radiation from both the phone and antenna regions. Ask them if they have a complete independent SAR value evaluation study to back their claims or maybe they have but the results were less then favorable, leading them not to publish it. Think about it......the phone is a receiver/transmitter. A simple radio is just a receiver. Guess what happens when you put a Faraday Cage over it?? - It doesn't work! Why? The very basic principle of a Faraday Cage is to block in a omnidirection (The Cellular Shield is a unidirectional shielding device, blocking only the EMF where it counts) and not allow any signals in or out of the cage. This actually will cause the phone to "power up" even more by attempting to maintain it's connection with the cell site/base antenna. It's somewhat of a self-defeating purpose. The cellular phone is dynamic, by blocking one source of exposer to the user this way, you increase another. The bulk of the signal will go through the path of least resistance. By shielding one source and not the other, as well, is just ridiculous. Even by, additionally, using some type of antenna guard, in this situation, further's the self-defeating process by limiting even more communications between the phone and it's target (base site). All of which, puts the phone in an extreme situation, stressing the signal further, as well as, it's internal components. It's simply a no win situation all the way around! Yes, it may reduce the RF microwave radiation from just the phone region, but at what price? If the manufactures of the Faraday Cage phone shielding devices claim that their device really work and block the EMF from the phone then it fellows that their devices have to, in someway, effect the phone's performance, which in turn, also effects it's battery life, as illustrated above. Also, any "db, mG, Watts/cm2, etc." (other then SAR readings) values/charts/plots/pictures the manufacture may supply showing how their product attenuate's the RF microwave radiation, are, again, relative to the phone only and obviously not from the antenna (or with other devices, vice versa) which we all know realistically is, also, in close proximity to the head and occasionally even comes in direct contact with the skull/head region, when in use. At any one particular moment in time, these values change constantly as the phone emitting RF microwave radiation is a dynamic occurrence, not only in intensity but in its location, as well. If a phone shielding device manufacturer takes ten or twenty or more different readings with their device using the above methods, they will get ten or twenty or more different readings. Guess which reading they are going to use for their testing purposes - that's right - the lowest one! And,of course, relate it to the highest level without their device. On paper, the end results look somewhat impressive. But the truth of the matter is, it does not even come close to a realistic situation when compared to independent SAR value testing.

By the way, SAR value testing are the only readings the cellular phone industry uses/recognizes, including the FCC, to rate a phone's EMF/RF microwave radiation output for public use, safety and compliance. This value is the "Meat and Potatoes," "Numero Uno," "Nuts and Bolts," "End All Result," (well... you get the picture) of a particular phone's rating used in any and all safety guidelines, despite what a few people may have to say about it overall meaning.

WARNING! - Most headset devices do reduce the total SAR value to the brain/head on an average of ~90%. However, the ~10% of the RF microwave radiation exposer is now being concentrated into the ear canal (~.5 cm2 in area). Taking the total area that is normally exposed to the RF microwave radiation without using any shielding device (~200-300 cm2 in area). This makes the ear canal region ~1/500th of the total area involved. So the overall concentration of the radiation will actually increase in the ear canal region by using a headset device relative to not using one. An example of this would be to take a phone with a SAR value of 1. By averaging that value over a ~250 cm2 area, each cm2 as a value of ~1/250th of the total SAR value. A ~90% reduction means that ~10% of the total SAR is getting through, giving a new total value of .1 SAR. This would then be the approximate SAR value passing through that .5 cm2 area which we call the ear canal. To give you an idea of the intensity of that value relative to the total area concentration into the head region, multiply the .1 SAR value by ~500 (which is the fractional amount of the ear canal region to the rest of the total area exposed (~.5cm2/~250cm2 =500)) this equals ~50 and that would be the actual total area SAR exposer the rest of the area would have to be subjected to, to get the same SAR value in the ear canal region when using the headset device. Another words, using the headset increases the RF microwave exposer through the ear canal by ~50 times! That's ~50 times more radiation through the ear canal then if you did not use a headset device! A good analogy of this process would be using a magnify glass to burn some leaves (you remember, think back to when you were a kid, Hummm..... those were the days!!) the light in the area involved is concentrated, centrally, darkening (in relationship) the area around it. It is of the same overall principle but in an extreme sort of way. The above scenario does not, additionally, take into account the additional radiation leakage that also occurs throughout the whole length of the cable from the earpiece to the connection to the phone. Additionally, if at any point in time, the cable should come in relatively close proximity to the phone and/or antenna, the cable would then act as a conduit, conducting additional RF microwave radiation from the phone and/or antenna through it (becoming an "extension of the phone and/or antenna") increasing even further the radiation output into the ear canal (it's almost like sticking the antenna directly into your ear!). Nor does it take into account whether the phone is actually contacting other body parts/internal organs when using it while walking, jogging, bicycling, etc. You can begin to see the many dark sides of using headset devices and the false sense of security they can bring. Just when you thought it was safe to use your phone again! Here's still another great use for the Shield. If you still insist on using a headset despite todays warnings, by simply placing the Shield between the phone and body part it's in contact with, when your on the phone (i.e. chest, plevis, etc.), you at least shield that area, behind which the Shield is placed, where it would of otherwised not have been protected (chest = heart/lungs, pelvis = liver, kidneys, pancreas, gall bladder, uterus, prostate gland, testicles, ovaries, etc....well...you get the picture).

WARNING! - Stay away from shielding devices that claim to be screens, diodes, carbon foam patches that attach/adhere to your phone or antenna guards/deflectors that clip/stick on to your antenna or phone. Read the fine print "99% effective for blocking microwaves that directly contact the product". (Which was not even true with the products we tested.) Now, these products are usually less then one square inch in total area....most humans I've seen walking around today usually have a slightly bigger head then that. These devices may look nice and compact, however, they simply do not work and merely give the user a false sense of security. One of these types of products, we tested, actually caused an overall increase in the EMF exposure to the phone user, do to a secondary field it generated. This device decreased the primary field but due to it's design/functionality, generated a secondary field that was actually stronger and closer to the individual's head, using the phone, then the primary field was!

WARNING! - Jabra and other wireless headset users. By wearing your cellular phone remotely, whether on your waist or in your chest pocket, you are still being exposed to the RF microwave radiation emitted from the phone! This exposer is now being targeted to your internal organs. This scenario causes maximum absorption of the radiation, as these regions are of soft tissue. Placing the phone right up against these soft tissue regions, the total EMF on the side of the user has no place to go but into the body cavity. This situation may even be more hazardous then using the phone in the usual manner. Especially when you consider that you are still placing a transmitter, however smaller then the phone, in or near the ear canal. Which is still emitting some amount of EMF.

In this case, The Cellular Shield® can supply some additional protection. Simply by placing it (usually the ultracompact version will suffice) between the phone and your body cavity, the soft tissue absorption can be considerably reduced. This can be performed in several different ways, supplied with the Shield's documentation.

One last device we've seen out on the market, recently, is called an "Internal Antenna", it's a small rectangular patchlike device that adheres onto the battery compartment behind the battery. The manufacture claims that it boost the signal strength on both incoming and outgoing transmissions. Well, I don't know any better way of "frying your brain" better then using one of these devices. It's common sense, by first increasing signal strength and then bringing it even closer to your brain, obviously that's not a good thing. Sure you may increase your reception, somewhat, but at what expense? Another thing to consider is that by using this device, it can alter the mechanism of it's function to a level at which it was not designed or intended for. By this we mean the phone's overall performance is changed/altered so that any testing results it was originally subjected to for public use is no longer valid. This is including the SAR testing that the FCC requires for every phone. These values are no longer valid and are obviously are going to be higher. How much higher is anyone's guess. Also by doing this, it can stress the phone's internal components to values that they were not designed or intended for, which can further cause them to age prematurely or malfunction over time. All of the above is assuming that the device truly does work, as the manufacture claim's it does and the phone user does not use a Cellular Shield®.

It may appear, to some people, (judging by the enclosed close up pictures) that the Cellular Shield® maybe somewhat cumbersome in appearance when compared to some of the other devices out on the market today. In reality, due to its unique overall design, in addition to all of the above mentioned benefits it provides, when it is applied and in use on a phone, it is virtually undetectable to any surrounding individuals, as well as, the person using it. Remember, one of the additional ways it protects the user from the RF microwave radiation is by physically blocking any chance of both the phone and antenna from coming into contact to the user's head. The only sense you will probably experience is the sense of comfort it provides in knowing that your brain is not being exposed to the RF microwave radiation it would have been, without using the Shield. As a matter of fact, once you start using the Shield, the only time you will notice it, is when you are using a cellular or cordless phone without it! Look at it this way, would you rather use a phone shielding device that is not noticeable at all, that does not work, or use one that maybe slightly noticeable that does truly work?...You decide. As stated earlier, think of using The Cellular Shield along the same line as a motorcyclist/football player wearing a helmet before the big game/ride or puting your child in a car seat before going on that trip... these precautions are taken for the very same safety reasons you would use a Cellular Shield® for. Also consider the tens of millions of developing children and young adults that are placing these powerful transmitters right up against the side of their heads everyday of their lifes. Are they even more susceptible to the RF microwave radiation coming from the phone then adults? One thing we do know for sure; its certainly not a good thing. Why take a chance with any immediate and/or future potential health risk to these growing minds. Especially when there is now a simple solution. To sum it up in a nut shell, that's why we like to call/consider when using The Cellular Shield®; "Cellular Contraception".
